Technical How do you get the daylight running bulbs out ??

Hi everyone ..... blimey all this over a bulb !!

For those that were helpful .... thanks, it's appreciated.

For those who this obviously caused annoyance too ..... as per my first post I DID READ THE MANUAL, and certainly wouldn't have posted this on here without trying first. The manual it turns out is incorrect so I was doing it wrong. I'm glad my own owners club that I am a member of are a lot more helpful (however small the task) and not too quick to judge.

I have plenty of get-up-and-go thank you very much. I have performed hundreds of tasks on my own car with the guidance of club members including changing my own cam belt, so i'm not afraid to have a go myself, and certainly don't 'just take it to the dealer'.

I'll remember next time to ask elsewhere in case I annoy anyone else !!

People having a pop at new member because the manual was wrong? A bit out of order, I'm sure the members will agree in hindsight. Especially as they probably knew that some of the manuals were wrong.

AdynGill:
Don't be afraid to ask questions on here, some members are very informative and helpful and will go out of their way to give you help with any issues you have, even if they are answered in the handbook. There isn't a rule on this forum that means you can't post about things covered in the handbook, and even though a few members don't like it they won't get removed or edited unless they're really silly (like asking how to open the bonnet or something)

Also, if you feel that a member is being aggressive towards you, you can report the post by clicking the 'warning triangle' at the bottom left of the post. This will then alert the mods to the post and the correct action can be taken.

Regarding the DRL bulbs, I too found them very difficult to remove on my 500 when I had it. The bulb housings were very stiff and even when turned the correct way it took a lot of force to get them to 'click' out of position. I've got tiny fingers too, so I imagine it would be very hard for someone who isn't as skeletal as I am! :p

Thinking about it i'll try a get a guide made up on weekly checks like i did in the gp section

OP got a tough time for turning bulbs in clockwise direction !!

Come on guys we all have diff skill levels and have to give benefit of doubt, In this case perhaps fear of breaking something !?!

On a scale of complexity this is prob 3 out of 10 due to the location. The one which takes the p**s is filling the car with fuel and the pump clicking off, I mean wtf if you can't adjust the filler to fill the car you should not be on the road. That is zero complexity.

I find that a little surprising, I don't think my hands are as skinny as yours (I wasn't checking out your hands when I met you, I promise) and it was quite easy for me. Though I have always been told that I have strong hands so maybe that's it.

Plenty of practice gripping things, eh, Maxi?

I just found this video of Maxi at work..

My main problem was that I couldn't get enough 'turn' in the bulb holder to get it to 'pop' out of position. No matter how hard I pushed it just dug deeper and deeper into my skin! Which wasn't much fun at all. It was a lot easier the 2nd time round though.

It's a really bad design, either way.

Agreed. It's not like opening the access hatch gets you complete access to the light fitting either, it's a bit silly.

I usually don't respond to technical or mechanical posts (wouldn't know where to begin!:)) but on this occasion I do have to say that I do feel for the OP. I believe he was unfairly treated for asking a fair question. I hope he/she won't be scared away. As for the people not being 'hands on', I think its not fair to judge as levels of proficiency can vary a lot from one person to the next. I can cook a mean lasagna but can't change a lightbulb to save my life! Not intended as a slight to OP in any way, btw...

Mel, I liked your post and I bet I would like your Lasagna, perhaps we should do the Xmas meal round yours.

Would love to! Tony, be careful or powers that be might accuse us of Abarth splintership!;(hmmm, that is not a word, surely!))I mean to say, if I ever do a Xmas lasagna ALL make and models of Fiat are welcome! :)

OK I agree I was a touch harsh and I do apologise to the OP.

Hello.

After trying to remove the Day time running light bulb in my daughters 2010 Fiat 500 sport
I came across the same problem as every one else, my hands are too big for this job!
After a little bit of thinking I went to my garage and picked up an 11MM open ended spanner which fits snuggley over the bulb holder with a little twist I was then able to reach in and lift out the bulb holder and remove the bulb. Refitting is the same as above but in reverse. I hope this helps!

Its nice to have some helpful advice from kawahonduki after the patronising coments from 306maxi. I have for over 30 years have worked on cars and have stripped down engines to their component parts on many occasions. I too couldnt get the dammed driving light bulb out. The hole is just to small. I suggest that if anyone does not want to waste their time giving advice on a forum, then dont go on it and get back to waxing their car.

I dont get why some people have to be so flippant and sarcastic in their replys! the guy obviously came on for advice! and hoped there were people on here who have had the same issue and can simply offer helpful advice!
which funnily enough is why I came on today! as a last result its always good to consult or search a forum!
I Myself have had the "check DRL message the past few weeks" it is a loose bulb connecion i think as the light was off yesterday and then came on!
and I still cant get to the bulb myself! i can just about get my hand in partially, i cant even get two fingers on to turn, the rubber cap also fell inside and I had to try get that out, which i did eventually, anyway I STILL cant get to the bulb! and I aint also some Novice who cant do things for myself, i just Cant get my hands or fingers in!!
so hats of for those who genuinely offer advice or help, no matter how easy or hard a task is, and those who insult or get sarky like maxi got two words!! but i wont use them on this forum.
im going to give mine another try ina mo! Poxy things lol

If it's intermittent you could try bending out the wires on the base of the push in bulb to ensure a better connection I've not had to replace one yet but have had the bumper off several times for suspension work, given (now) how quick and easy it is to remove I may go that route but that's only as all the bolts are greased and the screws are now stainless steel.
