How do i test my fan (HGT)

been having a problem with the HGT temp rising up towards the red (3/4) when in traffic, i have bee trying to test the fan today with no luck as i wasnt too sure what to do...can anyone confirm the correct way of testing the fan, as ive been reading and had conflicting stories of the correct way to do it

i presume the best way (and only way to do it) is to let your engine warm up to the half way mark, when the fan should come on, and if it does, it works, if the heat carrys on rising then it doesnt,lol!

Simulate your engine overtemping without actually doing it
Go to Maplins or simlar elctronics suppliers and buy a variable resistor up to 10k ohm, solder some wires to it, check you can simulate resistances in the right range of 5k to 170 ohms. 5k = zero degress 170 = 100C then put this in place of your eng temp sensor

then you can play with the reisistor to make your ecu think the engine is at any temp you like
