Technical How do I remove the window winder / door card?

Don't put any more in as may be a source of rust, just make sure what are there are clear .
One of the rare faults I found at Mazda Dealers in the 1970s was a brand new car with a very heavy drivers door, it was full of rain water!

I have some new door mirrors that I should be able to see through the windows but I'm defeated bu the window winders. Can you give me a clue how to get them off?

I have an alternate way of removing the winder spring clip. I used a very thin (and strong) piece of string and was able to lasso one end of the clip, pull it to the closed end of the clip and pull again. It pinged off no problem. I should add that my string is kevlar ripcord so stronger than the usual string but I would expect strong cotton string would still do the trick.
