i have a 1992 fiat uno 1.0 fire is there any way i can make it faster but i dont want to change the engine or take out back seats (5 door) i have already fitted a cone air filter and that hasnt done much i have heard of people using bigger carbs and bike carbs and will this work and how would i fit it
please help me :worship:
To get more power without changing the engine you'd still have to take the engine apart and carry out quite a bit of work to it. If you're going to do that it would actually be less work to swap the entire engine over...
Read this thread about engine swaps for power upgrades:

Bigger carbs on their own won't do anything unless the intake and exhaust systems are able to breathe better. So that means you'd need to fit a hotter camshaft and look at fitting bigger valves, which means taking the engine apart and having work carried out on it. You'd also need to increase the size of the pea shooter standard exhaust. This is work that will probably cost more than the price of a 1242cc Punto engine that will slot straight in place of your existing unit...
If you want to go faster without doing anything to the engine then you need to remove as much excess weight as you can from the car. That means the interior (yes, you will lose the rear seats), the spare wheel, door cards, all fasteners and fittings, basically anything that isn't essential for the running of the car. You can go further by drilling holes in any bits of non structural metal to make them lighter. This is the route many race cars go down to lighten the body and therefore increase speed and acceleration.
If you want to increase power substantially without much work then have a nitrous oxide (NOS) system plumbed in. You will only be able to use it for a few seconds at a time but you can look at a 50% power increase easily. Use it too much though and you'll melt the engine. Oh, and bear in mind that a NOS system doesn't come cheap and needs to be installed professionally. Once again this is going to cost way more than fitting a bigger FIRE engine in place of your 999cc unit.
Notice a pattern here? Yes, the most cost effective and in many cases easiest way to increase power is to fit a bigger engine from the same modular engine family. In your case a 1242 8v Punto engine would be perfect, would hook up to your existing transmission and will even run off your 999cc carburettor or SPi system. Other than a NOS kit, there are no bolt on modifications you can do that will increase the power by much. You don't get something for nothing and bear in mind that if the 999cc could be available with lots more power then Fiat would've offered it like that already. They're excellent and tough engines, but without much work and money they aren't going to be fire breathers.
Read the link I gave above and have a good long think about what you want to achieve and whether you have the time, money and resources to achieve it. Good luck
