Trust me, the Brera Diesel has enough power to overtake! it has a lot more torque than the V6 too, so it should pull well once the turbo winds up.
The thing is the way the power is delivered. Raw figures might suggest the diesel Brera is a viable alternative to a petrol car but the problem is in a diesel you only get usable power from about 2 thousand rpm to a bit over 3 and a half thousand and then you'll find yourself changing gear again. Turbo diesels have the annoying habit of having enough power to get you alongside another car then not having enough power to actually get you properly past. Diesels are deeply unsatisfying things to drive ;)

Its not an audi engine its a more modern (much better) revision of the 2.4 JTD that was in the marea.

And I think Alfa's are fantastic cars but don't expect it to be cheap!. I think alot of people buy them cause their cheap then hurt when things start going wrong. As said get a well maintained one that looks like its been cared for. Listen very carefully on the first stone cold start up (twin spark engines only) and listen for knock / tapping if it is it could either be a knackered variator (not that big a deal) or knocking bottom end which is usually a new engine time!.

I had a S Reg 156 2.0 Twin Spark for about 10months and except for servicing didn't cost me a penny I did however have to get rid when bottom end started knocking lol.

And I agree if I HAD to have a brera it would be a JTD the V6 aint even a Alfa unit (A GM Engine same as vectra)! and its bloody woefull.

Each to his/her own :)

It's only the block that's GM sourced :) If you want an Alfa V6 you could always go for the GT which has a proper Alfa Arese V6 :)

I think the 2.4 with 210 BHP would be just fine for overtaking, i overtake in my Panda in 5th gear all the time, that's a 1.3L 70 BHP, the Brera has 3 times the power! Anyway, you're probably right, it will cost a fortune to run and service so I'll probably change my mind come next year, just thought a 2 year old Brera Diesel for little over £12k seemed cheap considering they cost almost £30k brand new.

Don't worry i will! As selfish as it sounds, i only buy a car to please myself, i drive it how i want, slow or fast (usually slow) It's usually only me who's in the car so there's no point trying to please anybody else.
:)
