Got some good reviews in Bike Magazine. Will never have the cachet or excitement of something like an Aprilia RS125 but will do more mpg and will last longer before it needs serious maintenance. A young lad who works over the road from where I live has had one for almost 9 months and so far it has been faultless and he uses it every day for work. On the other hand, you might be better off with a (European) 125 scooter. More practical, better weather protection and less exposed metal to lose its lustre.

personally id go for the honda, its reliable, things like riejus and derbi's look the nuts but thats about it, sheep in wolves clothing,

if you want something performance wise at 125 you want a 2 stoke, yam tzr125, aprillia rs125, cagiva mito 125, all will be capable of keeping with the bigger bikes round the twisties, tlike the gixer 600's /750's (always used to try and keep up on the way to sherburn in elmet :p) but will still leave you for dead on the straights,

4 stroke are bullet proof work horses, but dont deliver the power of a 2 stroke, but it will just keep running, whatever the weather, and im sure the cbr125 can still see 65-70mph,

personally go for the CBR it wont let you down,

The RS2 125 as a yamaha engine. My RS2 does 80 ;) faster then my mate's CBR and looks nicer. But 2t 125s are too quick :p Another mate i know hs Mito Evoloution 125 with jolly moto pipe and will keep up with a mate's cbr400 easy. He tried selling me his mito with 150 or 170 bore kit lol for £1200 but i dont wanta bike anymore

cbr would be a good choice tho i always did like the aprilia rs125, best in its category in my opinion. but i didnt like the skinny look of them so i bought a bandit instead :p

o and i would most defnitly pick the yahmaha over the honda, such a better designed bike, a wee cute r6 lol. plus the cbr's are getting a bit too common now

If it's only for commuting to work why shell out loadsa dosh on a CBR 125 ? Winter's coming and all the road crap will have it looking crap after a few weeks. If you need a bit of street cred without the expense then consider a Hyosung Comet 125. A nippy V-Twin that has some good reviews.

If you want reliability then it has to be Honda for me. They go on and on. I had a Honda Varadero XL125 for a year, fantastic bike and ideal if you're quite tall. Then I had a Gilera Runner VX125 scooter which was great fun but didn't have as much road presence as the Honda. I bought the Gilera brand new so reliability was good but I would expect it to be on a brand new bike. I then went for a CBR125. Good fun although I do agree it's a bit skinny. Again very reliable, I liked it so much I've recently bought a CBR600. Now that's fun!!(y)

Why just the honda? There is nothing wrong reliability wise with any other manufacturer out there its all just crap about other stuff breaking down regularly. Its like any car, look after it properly with servicing and it will be fine.

what do people think of the honda cbr125
it is honestly one of the worst race rep 125s you can get. its too small and too slow, it just doesnt look right especially if you're over 5foot and 10stone. plus its a single cylinder 4stoke, so you'll fall asleep with boredom. at least the NSR125 was a 2 stoke, so you could go fast enough that no one would see you were sat on a half sized girly bike.

things have changed a lot in the 125 world in recent years, but 1 thing has remained the same. the only race rep 125's worth buying are the aprilia rs125 and cagiva mito 2strokes. 120mph is easily obtainable with minor cheap mods, and the acceleration means you can keep up with most big bikes up to 90mph (seriously you can). that might not seem important now, but about 30mins after you buy a slow bike it suddently becomes very important. a cbr125 will stuggle to keep up with many scooters, seriously it will.

the cbr125 doesnt even have adjustable suspension or decent brakes, its a horrible choice, please do not buy one.

as an ex-cagiva owner myself i would highly recommend a mito. its a vicious little bugger that looks like sex and handles amazingly. the brakes are superb.

If I we're in the same market as you, I'd go for a Yamaha DT-125SM or maybe the Aprilia SX125.

I had a DT-125 years, 2-stroke poke (especially with a full DEP pipe on!), good economy and reliability.

Sports bikes are great, but you'll have more fun commuting on a supermoto / trailie.

Of course, this is all IMO.

Don't forget that one of the reasons the OP suggested a CBR 125 was for economy. 2 strokes win hands down every time for power/ performance/ smiles per mile but an equivilent 125 4 stroke will nearly always be more economical and most likely require less servicing.

A miss my Yamaha RD 350 LC and RD 350 YPVS though :(

thats true, the 4stroke will cost £3 per week to fuel and the 2stroke will cost £6 per week. i'd rather pay the extra £3 so i dont have to get overtaken by buses and lorries every day.
