Hastle hastle hastle.

Not two days ago my exhaust fell off, the next morning the clutch slave cylender exploded. £140 in two days. Not two weeks ago the car was broken into - £250.

Now comes more problems - When accelerating normally, the car usually seems to 'stop' accelerating for about one or two seconds, and the goes again.

Anyone know what this could be? I also think I have a fuel leak somewere because when I start it and start driving I can smell petrol Either that or the car is running really rich because my fuel economy is abismal Il fill the whole tank and after 100 miles it'l be half way down. Also when driving it hard I kinda hear a hissing sound not sure if hissing is the best way to describe it though but its been there since I have had the car?

The car currently has a rocker cover leak but the garage said that was very minor so no worries.

Now even more great news, the rear of my car nocks - Like every bump you hear a nock. I assume this is nackered rear suspension or shocks?

Now I have about 25p untill next month. How much is this going to break my bank? I love my Punto MK1 Sporting but I think il have to get rid of it if the cost seems to fly too high.

Cheers.

Mk1, mk2 or mk2b? We need to know this stuff.

If it is a mk1 then the rear bushes are gone (common problem). You need new suspension arms. (£40 from fiat and easy enough to diy). Think you only need 1 for the side that is gone.

I am thinking, you say your exhaust was recently replaced? Could be the new exhaust improperly fitted and banging against the underside of the car.

Check your entire induction system and make sure there are no cracks or splits.

When was it last serviced?

sounds like you are having a bad time with it.

just sounds really unlucky.

my mk1 is doing the same juddery thing when driving about using next to no throttle, its all over th spot, I think its lamda sensor about to chuff it, and thats what I'm going to replace in a few weeks, see if it helps!

come to think of it, if they've changed part of your exhaust they will have probably disturbed the lamda sensor in top of front pipe, so it'll be that, or th wire has broken inside (Common on cars for wiring looms to break up and crack).

Get the fuel pipe housings checked out i could smell petrol sometimes when i had my mk1 but wasnt really botherd about it as i didnt notice i was lossing fuel i took it to my private mechanic before its MOT and he found a housing leaking petrol also check out the fuel filter while there at it just incase its that..

Knocking noise common for the punto is shocks and rear raduis arms... The hissing noise when i got my whole new exhaust fitted to my mk1 it came with this strange hissing noise when accelerating my guess is air escaping from the exhaust but i didnt have loss in performance so i left it..

yea i filled my car up the other day and have only got 100miles out of half a tank?!!? have recently fitted an induction kit so could this be the problem??

What kit did you get? MY HGT has better fuel consumption than that (currently 26mpg or 275 miles to the tank).

werid hissing noise can be due to bad exhaust welds,

I went thru THREE front pipes from my local motorfactor until we found one that didn't have bits of weld all over the inside (causing turbulance and making the car sound like it had some bad ass turbo fitted!).

they paid for it, and I got the last one they gave me a refund for the lot, so in effect got a free part (£28), but had a few extra hours of labour to do (myself, don't trust ANY mechanics, bunch of tosspots).
