Ok so got a funny buldge in one of my tyres on my HGT alloys today, was helping someone move so went home and though i'll throw on one of those mk1 HLX alloys i have, but i couldnt get the damm things to fit right.

Now i'm thinking that the mk2 HGT alloys have a deep resses that the locating pins fit into, as these would need to be longer than standard for them to fit into the larger space saver. I couldnt find my spanners, and didnt have a socket deep enough to hand to take them off as it was pissing it down and i was soaked through. I put on another Hgt alloy i had which is slightly buckled and leaking to get me through the day.

Can anyone she;d some light on this?

It was the front wheel, can get the HLX alloys to fit on the back no problems.

I believe its to do with the brakes... but will fit fine on the back :)

2xHLX owner,3xHGT, (then the darkside) 1xCoupe20vt now the proud owner of a Black Coupe20vt LE!

Anyone else? I didnt feel them catching on the brakes, they certainly werent catching at the sides. Really could do with these on the car if poss till i get some cash for new tyres.

I think it has something to do with the locating pins that also keep the brake discs on.

When I did a swap with Insy, I had mk2 15" standards and he had 17" Smiths at the time (now reversed), I had these pins but Insy didn't and his is a mk1 HLX.

I had to remove them in order to fit the wheels. Now looking at Insy's car, I saw not holes for these pins to be removed from so assume mk1 never came with them.

I have now put some countersunk ones in by countersinking the discs too just for piece of mind, though to my knowledge you don't need too. When you tighten the alloy up it will keep the disc tight.

Cheers Stu i'll go and have a good look now its dry outside and perhaps swap the ones off the Brava over and take the axel grinder to them. Where did you get countersunk ones you have to make them?

I just countersank the current discs.

Countersink drill bit and an electric drill. Don't angle grind them off. Taking the angle grinder to them will not remove the nut or screw bit inside the hub. You will still have a bit sticking out and still may not fit.

You need to remove them, think its either a 12mm or 13mm socket. You may need a bit of wd40 to losen them off but not too much and try not to get any on the braking part of the disc. You will understand when you try to stop.
