hiya people, hows things? i am looking into getting a 1.9 Sporting in crossover black... i have seen a second hand one with leather interior for £9999... its got about 2,500 miles on the clock iirc... does that sound about right? i'm unsure. also, if i was to buy new, is there anywhere that is mega cheap to get one from? i have looked at broadspeed.com and nationwide-cars.co.uk, and they are chucking a basic 1.9 sporting out for £10,700... obviously there is metallic paint on top of that and any other options i would want. i am in a way down sizing from a megane 225 trophy... it's getting too costly, and isn't leaving me any spare money to do other things. plus the insurance group is 17, lol, so i think the 1.9 sporting makes sense!! i am putting £50 a week in in petrol and getting about 22mpg! :bang:

i've got a few questions first of all though...

how much is the tax for the 1.9 sporting per year?

honestly, what is the mpg like on them? what can i expect knocking around? what can i expect on a motorway run of a decent size?

i've seen the celtic tuning thread, is that safe to run 190bhp? what else would that mean? would i need to improve the air flow to the engine if i had this done? what figures could i expect from this? 0-60 etc?

what revs is it doing at 70mph on the motorway?

what the hell is blue & me? does the 1.9 sporting have it as standard?

any common faults/problems with the GP??

also, if anyone could post up some pics of a black 1.9 sporting i would be very grateful! :) :worship:

thanks guys.

Hi minnnt,

welcome to the forum,

I can answer a few of your questions maybe.

The gp 1.9 sporting unfortunately just goes over a co2 increment, meaning tax is £130 per annum.

Mpg will be on average 40-45. you may get closer to 50 on a run out of town. They are not the most economical of card to run, but will halve your fuel costs. Check the thread about mpg to find what most are getting.

I don't think anyone has yet gone to 190hp. Common opinion is you'd get stacks of black smoke going this far without induction work. 160-170 seems more the norm. An easy upgrade. I was going to do mine, but thought better of it as i don't think i'm going to keep the car long enough to justify the cost.

At 70mph, the car is from what i can remember, about 2100 rpm, i'll check tomorrow.

blue and me is standard on the sporting. it's a media interface. In the glovebox is a usb port, you can plug in a usb stick with all your mp3's and operate it from the steering wheel, or voice commands. Bluetooth phone is operated the same way. Push the windows button on the steering wheel, and say some like "Call Sandra" and your bluetooth phone responds accordingly. That really is a great feature. Plus, if you get a text message arrive whilst you are dribving, your music is interrupted with "New Message, would you like me to read it?" you say "yes" and the voice reads it to you, very clever.:)

There are a few falts with these cars, steering rack was one, but they should all be sorted by now, and new ones won't be affected. Also, the brakes squeal on most cars until you get them looked at. I don't know if this is now sorted on new cars.

As for the the price, fiatsupasaver.com are selling them for £10095 most probably plus optional paint which is in fact not optional, they don't sell them in primer:devil:
The used one may be okay at that price, but i'd rather forget the leather, and get new.

A few of us have bought from supasaver on here, and i found them great. Proper franchised UK dealer. You can't p/ex with them though.

hope this helps,

deeyup

we got our gp new the steering rack problem has been taken care of and the brakes have never made any sort of noise at all. Everything perfect so far. (y)

thanks. i've had a bit of a shock with how much i owe on my megane, but i'm off to the dealer this afternoon to see what he offers me. thanks people... they sound like a great car! :)

Hiya again. I test drove the punto on tuesday afternoon, and it was a shock to me how noisy it was, and tbh, i totally went off of it, but i've test drove it again today, and i love it! lol, weird i know, but i think it's great!!! He tried to get me to sign up there and then, but i have come away to think about it, and i think i am gonna go back tomorrow and sign for it...!!! brand new in crossover black with 12 months tax... and i am hoping to get the jewelbrite stuff thrown in... i have read that it ain't worth the money, but i figure if its free i might aswell have it!! hopefully anyway, lol!! :D
