I thought I would report back on my experience with hill holder.
After my initial attempt to get it to operate facing down my drive and in reverse almost ended with me needing a new front door and new car I took the sensible precaution of experimenting am my parents on a safe hill on thier land.
It works fine, in both forward and reverse gears (depending on which way your facing
).
Finally figured out it was me, not operating it properly and its all explained in the manual p55.
The curve ball supplied by the dealer "the hill holder is not activated with the car in reverse" is wrong. It works as specified in the manual and as stated on this site in other threads.
All is good with the 500
