Panda (Classic) Hilary the '91 Sisley

Introduction

Hello all and finally I have news and pictures of the new addition to our growing circle of 4x4s.

So without further ado here is Hilary!

We picked her up on Saturday morning from Kendal in Cumbria, she has spent the last twelve years being run by the same lady around some of the most picturesque countryside you'll find in this country. As some of you will know I got my hands on her through ebay (thanks to @homeward for posting the link up :D) and she's a beauty. Named after the lady who I bought it off.

She failed her MOT two years ago on some good rusty bits...

...and the usual 4x4 problems, brakes, wheel bearings, shocks, engine mounts etc. But as far as rust goes she's not actually that bad considering she's lived half her life on a Farm (all be it a very clean one).

Previously had a couple of patches in the boot but the sills (what's left of them) are original as are all the chassis legs and floor pans. She's had a catalogue of new bits including a fuel tank (yay) and a master cylinder, but the previous owner told me that the car was just getting too expensive to keep running so it was time to let her go.

Now I have brought her back to Yorkshire she'll be getting restored to roadworthy condition over this winter period, I can't wait to take her for a drive in the sun next year, she runs sweet as a nut. The milage is original as I have all the receipts for the period of the last two owners which takes it back to 6 months old in early '92.

Although it is a later Sisley and of the Burgundy veriety she still looks great with the original white stickers on the lower body, original roof bars and three original Sisley hubcaps...

...All of the other original Sisley parts are present including the full interior and inclinometer, even the original stereo and speakers!

The only bad bits apart from the holes in the chassis are the drivers' door which has rotted badly, the sump and guard have had a fair bash at some point and the nearside front corner has been damaged in a collision. The drivers' seat is also ripped.

The description on the ebay auction wasn't great which worked in my favour really as a friend and I went to view the car before bidding, so I think people would have been scared to bid blind on this particular car. Nonetheless I got it for a good price and this one will be saved (y)

I'll keep updating the thread with progress, she's off in for the welding work next week so people may be able to see her on the weekend of the Panday :)
Excellent it brought a smile to my face when I thunkt it, "is this a word? Well it sounds right for the sentence so it'll do" which is where I get most of my made up mixedup words from... I have a reputation for it in my house

I love things like this... -- my favourite being "fakon", for fake (i.e. vegetarian) bacon.... :D

Fantastic use of the word "thunkt", as well...! :worship:

Never heard of fakon (y)

Is there a word for vegetarians who sometimes eat bacon - I know 2 of them who do!! (This concept confuses me, but then I also heard someone say they were vegetarian but ate chicken - that well known root vegetable  )

Maybe the bacon eaters are bacotarians or vegetaricons

Bacon is the hardest thing to give up, when you 'go' veggie... -- and that alluring, beckoning, eat-me-now-and-slather-me-in-ketchup-and-wham-me-between-two-slices-of-Warburtons (other brands of bread are available...) smell seems to be everywhere.... :(

I think "vegetaricons" gets my vote, by the way...! :slayer:

PS: My ex-mother-in-law (the best kind, possibly...) saw no issue whatsoever in serving me fish. Fruit of the sea...?

PPS: This thread is so on-topic....

... so hungry... :yum:

Yes I'd heard that - it does smell good though..........

By the way, I have no problem with the concept. I just wouldn't find anything to eat after about a day, so out of principal (of staying alive) it's not a viable option.

I do get confused with Vegetaricons who eat bacon, those who eat chicken, and those who eat fish. :nutter:

The Vogons must have a really hard time finding anything to eat too - maybe that's why they wanted to build that intergalactic highway. Hang on, is that right.............

Yes me too now. :yum:

The Vogons!
Not heard from them for a while!

I haven't done an update on project Hilary for a while, a few jobs have been done but not a serious amount as I've been busy with the rot box that is has now been named "Hadrian" :)

So the wheels have been sandblasted and are awaiting painting, they were very badly rusted so will require some serious paint to get rid of the pits, pics will follow.

I have a spare door for her off side as the original was really badly rotten, but the passenger side one is relatively clean and tidy.

The welding has begun in stages, but there is ALOT of it to be done so it will take a while. Again, pics to follow.

I have the original bull bar now off the previous owner, and some fantastic light guards thanks to purple haze which will look fab when they go on.

The original Sisley roof rack which is on Hilary at the moment is in a very bad way and will need re-making completely to be of any use :(

So I am needing help off you fantastic lot, Hilary needs a new set of "4x4 Sisley" door stickers. Now I can get these made up to be pretty close to the original style but I need the overall size of the sticker if somebody wouldn't mind measuring theirs for me? I need height and length please, the rest can be worked out.

Many thanks in advance :)

These are still available new off Fleabay Andy. Just search for Panda 4x4 Sisley & they pop up. Not a huge cost either iirc.

If you need them measured still (and no one else has done it), let me know & I'll measure mine for you. (y)

There's usually at least half a dozen. You might need to reset your search to "worldwide" if it isn't defaulting to that. (y)

The non Sisley ones? Yep they are for sale in our classified's! ;)

Fab cheers Gav - shows how often I look at the classifieds

I'll get hold of Michael about these aswell as I need some for Hadrian

Andy I can get you the measurements off mine tomorrow(y). Urchin had some made for me before he sadly passed away as he had a contact through his job who already had a drawing.

I also have the rear arch trim clips if you are still in need of a set, have been meaning to contact you about them(y)
