Had it for ages but never bothered to ask..
I get a high pitch whine when I turn the ignition on. It sounds like its coming from the ECU/back of engine-bay it then sounds like someone loading a gun and the whine stops.

This is when I turn the key both one click (electrics) or two clicks (engine start), its just harder to hear over the ROAR of my 1.4 ;)

Any ideas?

I know this is an old thread, but there is a better answer to this that might help someone else. This noise is the motorised throttle body calibrating, not fuel priming. It makes a high pitch noise and moves the butterfly around to check it knows where the limits are. It will make a "loaded gun" noise when the butterfly is pushed against the housing and a sort of ratchet inside is tripped, telling the ECU that that is the limit of the movement.
