Seicento Hi, (micro ecu question)

Hi everyone, New to the forum since I bought my sei in August (2015), its a 2001 s model, and came with 17k miles
With that, I've been doing some reading up, and somethings come up about the micro ecu which I think my car has...
Could someone elaborate the issues of a micro ecu, and tell me if I should replace it with a standard???

The first problem is that it is not possible to remap it. The second one is that it has a crappy coil driver that easily breaks (mostly because of a faulty coil). Otherwise it is not a bad ECU.

If the coil driver fails, can you replace it with another Fiat ECU i.e. earlier SPI ECU or is it a case of buying a new plug and play unit?

Using SPI ECU means really non-trivial re-looming of the engine. Using the non-micro MPI ECU also means re-looming, though a bit easier. So, yes, the only quick option is to replace the ECU, fixing the coil(s) first. (I might have read somewhere also that the ECU is servicable, but I am not certain).

Of course it is, you need a virginised one or a factory new one.

Don't forget you need a 'plug & play' ECU that is EXACTLY the same version as yours -should be a IAW 59F M7 unit for a 2001 non-Sporting (Sportings use the IAW 59F M1) and you need to replace both coils with new units.
Yup, they can be repaired but the cost of a plug & play units now mean that it's probably not worth the hassle of sending it off.
Or you could try repairing it yourself....
