I am so glad to have found this forum but am really gutted as 24hrs after purchasing a 2012 fiat 500c lounge the roof crunched and is now broken 😞
I am having awful trouble gettIng anyone to fix it …
Hettie drives really well and is lovely apart from a broken roof … 😭😭😭

Hello,

These roofs are quite easy to use comparing to standard cabrios, but there are lots of delicate parts that can break easily. I'm now fighting with two non-FIAT cars which have similar sliding roofs. The one of my ex's has been a nightmare to diagnose and repair, my own is a little bit easier.

Isn't there some kind of seller's responsibility in the UK? 24 hours, one might assume it was broken at the moment of purchase :(
 
No it actually worked fine on the way back and every garage said that they go suddenly 😥
We are hoping a roof specialist near us can help but if not it will be rent garage space and roll up the sleeves 🫣
 
From my perspective (with almost 10 years experience with similar roofs from two different makes) there are signs that the roof will break. The system is quite easy: rails, sliders, wires, electric motor (with a power supply), gears. I don't know what is the weakest point in the 500C.

Check (perhaps in the owner's handbook if there isn't a possibility to manually close the roof (sometime you can manually operate the gear to slide the roof). However that will work only it the problem is the motor itself. Or the power supply is dead. Gears can be plastic or metal.
 
There is a manual crank point in the boot under the parcel shelf luckily! so she is waterproof now just whistling like a kettle as obviously the mechanism hasn’t fully engaged to hold the roof tight!!! 🫣 I am just singing along with the whistle atm!! 🤭
 
Probably it's where the gear and engine are located :)

As far as I've seen (again, on non-FIAT cars), there are hooks on the front slider which catch some kind of stud and usually the front of the roof goes a couple of milimeters down, so the seal is higher then the roof. Eventually the rail goes a little bit down at the end (or rather front of the vehicle).
