Have just purchased an old motorhome based on the Ducato 2.8 (2000). It looks like this site will be useful as I learn to maintain the motorhome and carry out basic repairs. Mileage is under 50K and engine seems good. Heater fan not working - but I haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

Welcome to the forum. The year 2000 means that yours will be an x230 base vehicle model. (See VIN which will have the form ZFA230xxxxxx. The engine is moct probably a 2.8idTD (injection direct Turbo Diesel. The fifth gear on x230, and later x244 models is effectively an add on. It is splash lubricated from the main box. In order to avoid problems I suggest not using fifth gear for the first mile or thereabouts. Particularly so when the vehicle has been standing for a long period, which motorhomes oftem do.
