First post so be gentle :) Bought a 2017 Motorhome FIAT Ducato 2.3 150 Multijet Engine, so would like to learn as much as possible about the Engine

Any advice on a good Diagnostic Tool I could buy

Any advice/help appreciated

Welcome to the forum and good on you for wanting to learn! 😊
For a 2017 Fiat Ducato 2.3 Multijet, your best choice is a diagnostic tool that can read both engine and vehicle systems properly, not just generic OBD codes.

Recommended diagnostic options
1) MultiECUScan (MES)
Excellent for Fiat/PSA engines (Multijet). Reads live data, adaptation values, injections, DPF, faults.
Great value for money. Works on Windows laptop + simple OBD cable (Euro OBD II).
Best for deep understanding of your engine.
2) MORE advanced tool
Autel/Launch/Bosch scan tools
Broader vehicle coverage
Menu‑driven and easier UI
Usually pricier.
For most Ducato owners, MES + basic cable is the sweet spot between cost and capability.

If you want, tell us your budget and whether you use Windows laptop, Android tablet, iPad and we’ll try recommend exact cables/models.

Hi Mike
Thanks for the quick reply, not got a budget mainly use my IPod or IPhone, also have access to windows laptop, what’s the best device to use ?

Cheers

Best setup based on what you said
If you want phone-only:
ELM327 V1.5 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi adapter with apps that support iOS
Good for:
check/clear generic faults
view engine live data
monitor coolant temp/air temp/etc.
Not good for:
Multijet advanced diagnostics
turbo/EGR/DPF detailed graphs.
If you want serious Ducato diagnostics:
Windows laptop + MultiECUScan
Plus a cable that supports:
- K-Line (ISO 9141)
- Fiat/PSA protocols.
That unlocks:
Full fault codes with descriptions
Adaptations and actuator tests
Pressure and duty-cycle graphs
Injector deviation and DPF data.

@Communicator, can you help with a more specific recommendation? Is there anything better than what I said?
Sorry but I do not feel qualified to expand on your suggestions. However @theoneandonly has previously made suggestions in this area. He may have posted a guide as to what to use.

I am very sorry to be a Jonah, but I am afraid that year of registration of @Taza59 's vehicle causes me deep concern that it may have a twin EGR engine These engines are frequently beset by blocked HPEGR cooler problems. The member mentioned above is well versed in these problems, and will be able to advise.

My preference is for multiecuscan windows laptop and a usb obd2 device. I also use a BT version for non critical options (key cloning, proxi alignment). See guide.

For a twin egr engine i would reccommend reading
