Hi all
Just purchased a 2.0 jtd Ducato, 2006, last of the older shape, I think.
Just wondered if any of you gurus have any advice particular to thismodel/engine to best maintain it or indeed if there are any worthwhile mods that I should consider?
Van will be used more as a second car really with a track bike and spares being the heaviest load it will carry.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, and welcome:)

good race van(y)

maint. wise the JTD's are pretty durable,
just usual fluids and filters,
worth checking cambelt kit and waterpump too;)

Hello and welcome
Take a look at the state of the sump. They are very prone to serious rusting especially if there's no plastic under cover fitted.
The front bolt on crossmember under the radiator retains rain water internally and can also rust away.
Due to poor design the drain water from the windscreen scuttle conveniently drops on the gearbox and selector mechanism! When I checked my transmission oil it was badly contaminated with emulsified oil which needed a drain and change. (Stick a bit of pipe on the drain to extend it)
This is an excellent forum and if you do a quick search you will find lots of history and solutions to the above. Apart from a few niggles a bit of routine maintenance will give you a hard working reliable van with a tried and tested JTD engine.

Only up two hours and helpful replies already! Cheers guys, belt kit was changed 6k ago so all good there. I'll check the sump and cross member and an extension pipe will be added to the drain ASAP.

There is a pipe (coolant?) running from left to right over the top of the rocker cover. This can vibrate and so eventually fracture at the LH securing bracket.

I cable strapped the 'loose' end to a convenient fixing to avoid this happening.

PS re. the gearbox water drainage issue; if the gearchange is stiff the pivot may need re-lubricating; there is information on the forum how best to go about this (a search for 'gearbox pivot' should bring this information up)

Have the early 2002 version.
Motorhome at 3500Kgs seen most of Europe and Scandinavia over the years.
Water over engine area above the alternator mainly....when static for more than a week or so I cover area with a piece of plastic....have renewed all seals around bonnet etc to no avail!
My local trusted garage maintains it and checks the rust points as mentioned each year.

PS. 84 BHP is remarkably capable!!!

Thats the dw10 engine they are pretty bullet proof and a lot of the parts are common to everything from a pug 206 to citroen picasso to suzuki vitara. They will do 250k plus miles with basic regular servicing.

The gearbox is the biggest weak point in the 2.0 I would definitely drain it and refill with good quality synthetic.
