Hi eveyone, i',m new to these parts so thought i would introduce myself. my name is ian and i live in newcastle. curently driv a renault clio but im looking to buy a fiat bravo. anyone have any opinins on which model is the best?

thanks,

ian

Hi Ian - depends what you are after exactly.

Steer clear from the 1.4

The 1.2 is fairly nippy and economical.
1.6 is quick has a lot more punch than the 1.2
1.8 is slighlty quicker than the 1.6 IMO but quite a few people prefer it to the 1.6
20v is more powerful from 147 bhp to 155bhp depending on the year.

If you like diesels then get the JTD, i want one of these as they are quite tunable and the mileage i do i need a diesel ideally.

thanks for the advice, theres a 1.8 hlx goin at a very reasonable price near to me so i think i might have a trip up to view it.

I am sure you will love the car when you test drive it. I love bravos, thats why i am on my third :p

Check that it has all service history etc. What age is it? Miles? Cambelt been done? Red Key? Also check that the seats slide back and forth properly without any problems. I have known the rail to get bent and isnt a cheap part to replace unles you go to a scrappy.

Also check that there arent any water water marks around the sunroof. Some have a tendency to leak.

its a 2000 x-reg. dealer website spec is as follows:

3 Doors, Manual, Hatchback, Petrol, 37,000 miles, Metallic Moonstone. ABS, Adjustable seats, Adjustable steering column/wheel, Air conditioning, Alloy wheels, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Foglights, Folding rear seats, Headlight washers, Heated seats, Immobiliser, Power assisted steering, Remote locking, Radio/Cassette, Rear headrests, Full HPi and Mileage checked.Insurance Group:8

what would be a reasonable price?

i would say about £1600 - the mileage is low so i would pay upto £1800 maybe a bit more if its excellent condition, but especially if its a dealer due to the age i would say it needs a cambelt change. If they say well the book says 70k dont listen. It should be changed anytime soon due to its age.

I got a bravo a that was well in the mileage 40k had it six months and cambelt snapped. It was paid for by the garage but they should do it before you buy. Or get them to knock it off the price. £200 i would say was fair for cambelt change

I would say go for a JTD but thats only because i have one and i've never tried the other models. The JTD are slightly more expensive to buy, but it's a great car. I current get about 53mpg in the summer and during the winter it was about 48mpg.

As Sammi says check when the cam belt was last done and about £1600 - £1800 seems a fair price for a 1.8

hiya and welcome.

good choice of upgrade imo, but i am slighly biased

as Sammi said there is a good competent range. i have the 1.2 and for something that is cheap to run its a bloody hoot, and pretty quick aswell, esp considering its a 1.2 in such a big car

good luck finding the right one for you though mate

Well I think they just about covered it all so just leaves me to say Hello and welcome (y)
