I've got the chance of a HGT leather int. on an x plate 28k.

Mechanics I know said Fiat, walk away - poor mechanics electrical problems, expensive to run when it goes wrong.
I'd never considered a fiat before this opportunity. Can someone let me know of their experiences.

After reading some web pages I want the car but my head (based on mechanics comments) says don't do it.

I want to get the car but dont want to regret it.

Anyone got one or had one - Thanks

I've got one, without the leather. It's OK drives nicely, sounds good feels fairly solid, a few electrical niggles but basicly a nice car to drive. The main problem is the engine has little power at low revs, if you want to press on you have to keep them up. I thought the engine would be half way between a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder but had none of the grunt of a 6 cylinder unit.
You can buy mine if you fancy, it's just had the cambelt changed (best part of 1k of work) '99 V, ink blue/black.

No worse than most other cars out there of similar age and price.

I've had a 1997 1.6 for just under 4 years now, nothing major has gone wrong. Its needed all the usual bits for a car getting close to 80k, clutch, brakes, shocks, exhaust, bushes, wheel bearings etc..

No electrical probs.

Re: Re: HGT

Do your homework on the car and you wont go far wrong. I've had my 155 for almost 2 years with none of the problems your mechanics are talking about. Just remember that the HGT cambelt will need changing every 48K minimum not 72K as stated in the handbook. I've just had my cambelt done for £575 at an italian specialist but would be nearer £1k at Fiat.

Basically, Fiats reputation for unreliability is largely based on pre-1994 cars. They are still not quite up to German reliability but are certainly comparable to the likes of Ford and Vauxhall if my mates cars are anything to go by. They wont cost you as much to buy either.

Obviously you are unlikely to get any seriously dismissive comments on a Fiat Bravo site but as they say "You pays your money you takes your choice".

At least you'll have a car that brings you to a very friendly and informative forum.

Good luck. :)

Shabash!
