Hi all,
My car already suffers the dreaded variator problem, fails to start first time and then eventually decides to come to life 2nd or maybe 3rd time. It is already on my things to get done. However more concerning is something that has only just started to happen.
Once the engine is running (hot or cold) if i blip the trottle (1500+) and let the revs die down the car goes down to 500rpm and then it is like russian rollette as to whether the car will stall or not, things are made worse when coming up to junctions or roundabouts where the clutch is dipped and the revs die away and the car stalls.
Long way around to a question but is this related to the variator (a very strong smell of petrol can be smelt when i was testing it in my driveway) or is this something else that has gone wrong? I have recently resetted the ecu but i can't see this having that much effect on the engine. Any advice would be very much welcome, as i am hoping to get the variator fixed within the next couple of weeks so would like to know if there is something else that needs fixing.
As a side issue, i have been quoted £580 to have the variator fixed by Reading fiat - hence i shall hopefully be using an Italian specialist rather than pay £85 per hour labour charge
Having said all this is still get a buzz driving the car and love it to bits
