HGT thermostat problem?

Hiya

My 98 HGT has been suffering from the cold recently, and wanted to ask your opinion on a problem
Basically for a few months now I have noticed that the temperature gauge takes ages to rise to the middle. It eventually does, after driving for ages. So when I got my service done last time, i changed the thermostat. This hasnt done anything to the car and it is still the same. Now that it is so cold, the car revs very high for ages (btw 2500 to 3000 revs at idle), even when I've been driving for a while, causing a jerky ride at low gears......
COuld it be the thermostat again or something else?

I suppose I need to know before the snow hits - cant have frozen handbrakes and dodgy thermostats at the same time!!

thks
Phil

probably

is the thermo. had the same thing on my 97 HGT and replaced the thermo. at first i was worried since the niddle went past the middle and the fan didnt kick in. so after a few adjustments if finally worked and the damm thing stabelized at 1/4.

chek the thermo again... i really cant think of anything else..

Re: probably

thanks for that
but what do you mean by a few adjustments?

Re: probably

There are no adjustments.

the fan kicks in about 1 notch OVER midway.

The revving sounds like an different problem. The fact it was getting to the midway mark indicates the stat was fine to start with.

Remember with the heater on it will take longer to warm up as it bypasses the thermostat.
