HGT idle problem

Hi everyone
My car has been out of action for the last 6weeks due to a track rod problem. Recently I have gone to start the car, and where it normally fires up straight away and the ECU cuts in to keep the revs up for the cold engine, I have noticed instead that the revs jump up and and then down to 500, thus cutting out
I have done this a few times now, and though it doesnt cut out altogether all the time, the revs hover dangerously low at about 600, and prompting me to press the accelerator a bit.
do I have a ECU problem? or could it be because the car has been out of action for some time and the cold weather has affected it?
any suggestions welcome

thanks in advance
Phil

The question has to be why do you keep starting it? Apart from making a mess of the spark plugs it will not do your battery much good.

Re: Re: HGT idle problem

I have tried it a couple of times to check if the low revs start was a one off (maybe the cold weather played with the ECU a bit) it seems that it cuts out the first 2 times but by the third it flirts with cutting out. Thats been the extent of my investigation! any ideas tom?

Re: Re: Re: HGT idle problem

I would try resetting the ECU, it wouldnt do any harm...

are you sure?
and if so do i just disconnect the battery overnight?
(how would the car alarm work?)
or would it be better to disconnect for the whole day?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: HGT idle problem

You need to disconnect the battery for at least 12 hrs...

The alarm obviosly does not work so you may feel better doing it during the day...remember you can still lock the doors with the key...

The last time i did mine it was locked in a garage for a few days, so i didnt have to worry too much...

Good luck...

I'd leave it well alone until you can drive it. Lots of cold starts does untold havoc with your engine.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: HGT idle problem

Thing is I have been driving it over the last 2 days, the track rod problem is still not resolved but the car can be driven.
Shall I drive it for a week and see if the problem persists?
