Hi

Got a '99 Sei Sporting and have a couple of issues I want to clear up. Being used to much bigger cars and not having driven a small one for a few years, don't know whether the following is just the way the car runs or something more sinister.

Car seems to be running hot, but not enough to make the light come on. Fan is kicking in in traffic every minute or so. I get a feint smell of coolant when driving, not all the time, just every so often. Know they run hot, but is this normal? Coolant looks a little brown, but will be changing this and flushing rad, so hopefully this'll cure that. There is no scum on the oil filler cap and oil looks clean, but can see a line of moisture along engine. Is the top join the rocker cover gasket or the HG? I assume the HG is lower, but have never been that up on engines!! Can't see any drips under car. Also, even with the heating turned to cold, it is still coming out a little warm. All my cars for the last 15 years have had A/C, so can't remember if the ones I had before did this or not!

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

as long as the temp doesn't go over 90c i'd say you were ok.
also, if the car idle's really rough and sometimes doesn't start then the HG could be the culprit.

at the minute i'd say you were fine.

Thanks. Any idea what temp the warning light comes on at? No temp guage, so no way of telling how hot it is.

The fan kicking in every especially when stood is normal. Everything sounds above board.

If the car does a lot of short trips or straight onto motorway, high revs etc isnt beneficial as the car wont have warmed up properly

Every now and again it should get a decent run out. Gove car a service if not had one recently

If the temp light does come on do not go much further.

Cheers, guys. Jut had a good run out this afternoon and all looks fine, no water loss, no power loss, so happy with that. May not be fast, but sticks to the road like a go kart!

Glad your enjoying it (y) Yep all sounds good, i assume this is a new car for you. I do suggest a full coolant flush is a good plan, something that people tend to overlook, believe there is a guide made up already in the guides section but if not just give us a shout and i'll give you a simple how to ;).

Did you get a service history with it??
