Hey folks

Just put Brava JTD in for test and it failed miserably.

Needs both CV joint gaiters
All of rear brake pipes replacing (is it true they have to drop the fuel tank AND make the pipes from copper? Sounds like BS to me)
AND....
it failed on emissions

before anyone asks....
its had the following done in the last 6months:
New timing belt etc
New fuel, oil and air filters
Oil change

Any ideas why the emissions are so off (9 instead of under 3)

LASTLY...
I fitted an after market stereo and it works fine except that when the ignition is switched off it resets itself

what beau means is use injector cleaner, like redex or something and thrash the car down the motorway for an hour,as it takes carbon out of your cat and heats the cat up,

the brake pipe thing might be right, the brake pipes do need fabricated though from copper pipe,as i had mine done recently on the cinq,

cheers

The fuel tank does need dropped unfortunately, and they make the pipes out of copper (it's not that hard).

I got an advisory on this last January on my last MOT. My front to rear pipes are 'slightly' corroded. I'm kind of regretting having not fixed it during the summer. I'm going to put the car in as it is during January, and if I need to replace the pipes pray for a spell of good weather for working under the car.

With your radio pull it out you should have two live wires one ignition and one memory, swap the red and yellow wires over ;) at the moment you will have red to red and yellow to yellow. change so that it is yellow to red and red to yellow.

Imissions if that far out will be CAT most likely or Lambda. The testers can check if the lambda is working as it should cut in and out

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that if the cat was faulty the car should throw up a warning light, according to EODB (European On-Board Diagnostic) law.

This may depend upon the age of the car, however.

Or I may just be completely wrong:eek:

Either way, a bit of Redex and a quick Italian style engine cleaning can't be a bad thing:slayer:

dont know about the fuel tank being dropped but generaly garages will use copper for the brake lines ive got one and im sure many many others have aswell and my car failed the MOT on emisions aswell at the start of the year but that was the lambda sensor being faulty when i had the new exhaust built

with the cv joints needing done if you can be botheres to save some money and dont mind doing the work its not a hard process to do and you get cv joints and boots for about 30 buck a side if you look for them garages will probably charge around 60 is to fit them so it will save a hell of a lot of money same goes with the lambda if you give that a try buy a universal one for about 15-20 quid i think its a 3 wire one you need but cant remember and fit it yourself again but i think this needs the car battery rest thing to get it going properly again but all that probably save you about 200 quid :)

as for your stereo wire problem pul out the stereo and swap the red and yellow wires around and all done :D

it only failed on the boots (gaiters). they cost £10-13 each with clips and grease included in the box.
its not too hard to do. do it yourself using a haynes.

even if the boot has gone id rather pay for the convinience of doing the joints cause if the boot is gone more than likely there will be dirt in the joints now and will probaly wear down really quick but yeah you can just do the boot if thats all it is :)

Damm i got an advisory about that too in Nov, will need to have a look at it during the summer. If you need a hand give me a shout, as i could watch and learn and take pics for a guide!

brake pipes are nothing to get excited about, they cost little and all you need to fit them is an 11mm spanner and a bleed kit.

if you be craftys you can slide them over the tank, copper will bend easily and maintain its shape, so bend the pipe into a slight bend which you can get over the tank without removing it, or use a piece of string to pull them over the tank (because its easier to get the string over first, and it allows you to pull as wel as push), although lowering the tank a bit is very easy as well.

"brake pipes are nothing to get excited about"

It is if you have to put up with Glasgows January climate and do the job on the street!

If worst comes to the wort my mate has a large farm shed he uses as a workshopp and i'm sure he be happy to rent you the space for the day ;). Down the other side of Ayr thought!

Cheers Mountainmachine, thinking about it I have a friend who is a blacksmith out Kilmacomb way (spl?), he has a fabrication shed I could use. At least he said I could use it to do up my type 2 (when I get it).

The only problem with doing a job in the arse end of nowhere is that you are a long way from the scrappers/motor factors when something breaks that you weren't expecting to have to replace!

Or you find you dont have a 7mm hex for the brakes, or the right tool for the job, thankfully have nerly always had another car too hand to make the quick trip to halfords or motorfactors. Last time i read the oil bottle wrong, thought i had 5.5 litres turned out it was 2.5:cry:
