how can i make my 1.1ies uno perform better? so far i have an exhaust, K&N air filter and oil breather and perfofmance HT leads. its pretty nippy but needs more ooomph!

how much more power are you looking for?
whats your budget?

advance timing and use better fuel. Best results for your budget. after that maybe a better exhaust etc.

Sell it an buy something more powerful ;)

But seriously...

With a budget of £200 you aren't going to achieve much at all. If you buy new £200 will be gone on a fancy exhaust and 'induction' system, but you've already bought that. That lot, if you are lucky, might gain you an extra 1 or 2 bhp.

You could try and have the head ported and gas flowed, but unless you modify the fueling and camshaft you're unlikely to see a lot of gains. You could also try and find a Punto 75 camshaft and swap that in as it has higher lift than the standard 1.1 i.e. cam. It will work on any FIRE engine.

Remember the saying - "There ain't no substitute for cubic inches". In other words upping the capacity is preferable to attempting to tune an engine, and the gains are guaranteed.

So go find yourself a Punto 60 1242 engine, make a spacer block for the exhaust manifold and it will be a straight swap into your car with an instant power upgrade. The power won't be increased that much but torque will, and it's torque that you need for 'oomph' (y)

Increase your budget and you could start looking at swapping in a Punto 75 or 85/ Sporting 1242 MPI FIRE engine, though this will require more work as you will have to change the whole fueling system along with the ECU. And for about the same or more, you could be looking at buying a rusted Uno Turbo and could then swap over the UT's mechanicals into yours. That will give you between 105 - 122 bhp depending on which turbo engine you choose.

I'd say forget buying bolt on wonder bits and up the capacity (y)

I'd go for sheer compression.

Get the head skimmed so your compression increases, use only 97/98 RON petrol, de-coke the engine, use a higher lift cam if you want.

If you're careful, might only spend a couple only quid, and for 15+bhp boosts.
