Hullo,
Got some more problems with the PC. They generally only after my dad comes on and ****s about with it and then leaves me to fix it all.
Anyway. Bit of background on the setup which was all working perfectly just a few days ago untill the above event..
Im running an NTL calbe broadband connection which runs through there standard modem and is connected to this PC via USB. The connection is then shared to the computer in my room via a standard ethernet cable connected between this pcs and the one upstairs's network cards. No hub/router.
Now, my dad decided to install a firewall and anti-virus the other day, even though this PC already had one. Now the connection cannot be shared to the PC upstairs. I have tried using an independant proxy server program thing but it proved tempramental and was slow and onl worked when it wanted to. plus it seemed to drive the modem mad and would disconnect the connection (even though it doesnt dial in, being cable etc).
Anyway, untill my dad messed it up, the connection was shared using windows ICS (internet connection sharing) service which comes supplied with windows.
Unfortunatly it has now disappeared and does not appear to be installed anymore. (how i dont know...). When you go into the network wizard to share the connection it displays an error saying that the ICS service isnt installed.
So I go into the admin services thing in control panel expecting it has been diabled but it turns out its not actually on the list atall anymore!
.
Ive been through the add new programs bit to install new windows components but its not there to be installed etc. Ive also been through a few trouble shooters and so on but there is nothing actually assuming that you dont have ICS installedso im stuck!
What can I do to get it back? Can I download and install it somewhere as I cant find anything on the net etc. ive also searched through the windows CD with no results
. How could it have been uninstalled anyway?
Cheers
Please help
