I'm having problems installing a cd player in my Uno, and was recommended to check out this forum. Looks very nice btw.

A while ago I bought a 2nd hand cd player, and had it fitted by someone. It all seemed fine, until I noticed it was cutting out over any minor bump in the road. Anyway, the cd player was really cheap and nasty, and with it being 2nd hand decided to get rid. I bought a new one, a Kenwood KDC-W4031, which was on offer.

I read up on installing and thought I'd have a crack at doing it myself. I managed to get the old mounting bracket and put the new one in, connected up etc and it worked. But, as soon as the car was moving it would cut out, and would not turn back on until the car was stationary. The weird thing is this happens even on the radio ? I don't understnad that as surely there are no moving parts, it works perfect while the car is not moving, but just switched straight off as soon as I drive the car.

I've since installed some speakers in the back (I've tested and they work) so I really want to get this fixed, is there anything obvious I might have done wrong, bearing in mind this is my first attempt.

I am missing the plastic rim which goes around the fascia to keep it secure, but as I understand this shouldn't have such a great affect that it switches off whenever the car moves. It also doesn't explain why it turns off when just the radio is on. The only thing I can think off is loose connections but I've checked and they seem fine.

the cage the unit goes into, in the dashboard is secure? all wires checked through from the back of the unit to where they go into the loom? when you are stationary, give the head unit a waggle, is that replicating the effect? earths secure? unfortunatly beyond the obvious may be a long haul through a wiring loom designed by a blind crippled hunchback......

I've just been outside testing, and found it interesting that when shaking the unit it didnt cut out when on radio, and the car wasnt moving. I think this confirms that the problem isnt with the unit not being secure enough in the car.

I also had someone sit in the passenger seat whilst holding it as steady as possible, and again as soon as the car moved it cut out even on the radio.

perhaps you should run a fused live from the battery and a new earth.connect these to the stereo and see if the fault goes away. does sound like a dodgy connection TBH

That sounds like an interesting suggestion, unfortunatley I know absolutley sod all about car electrics. I know someone who might know about this tho, so I'll give that a try.

The forum I originally posted on (where someone directed me to here), someone suggested that I might've wired the +12V cable on to a feed that automatically drops when the car is in motion. Does that sound plausible? TBH, I haven't got a clue.

The uno shouldnt have such a wire

Just check your grounding :) Had a similar problem myself. My grounding problem was actually the main grounding point near the battery. It was hard to diagnose as all else was ok, but the stereo was too sensitive and kept switching itself off.

Only noticed when the problem got progressively worse and all my lights would stop working when i pressed the brake pedal or indicate

Anyways im rambling, so in short, check all the grounding points :)

interesting....lol

now when you say moving do you mean if your stationary with the engine running it works fine?

if so then.... well..... you need a young boy genius and i think we are all out of them.

Good Luck,

Does the unit pull out from the cradle as an anti theft device, if so when replacing unit back into the cradle, make sure the contacts push fully home. I had same problems with a Pioneer unit. Apart from that its a cable fault, probable earthing, Uno's have a terrible earthing system!! Good luck!! (y)

well...have u checked the alternator current regulator ??..If traces of ac current is found in the stereo input wires then chances are there that the stereo systems may switch off...

Also check all grounding, especially the one from battery/ stereo/ alternator...try running a fresh wire from the battery to the set..there must be some memory wire too for all the new gen stereo's so check that's also connected to th +ve supply..if u need memory backup, connect the memory wire to the battery with a fuse ,+wire of the system to the ignition switched +'ve rail, and check . for that point, u can always connect this 2 wires together, but there may not be any memory stored..\\
