Hi my boyfriend recently bought a 2002 Fiat Doblo Cargo and somehow has managed to loose his keys walking from the van to the house, no spare key and log book etc all locked in the van.

Spoken to Fiat dealer, quoted £546 + VAT for replacement keys ONLY (have to have 2 apparently and need to be ordered and made in Italy) which will take at least 14 days to get here.

Spoken to Locksmiths, quoted £400 + VAT to have a new key.

Does anyone have any ideas? No way he can afford £400 - 500 (no despite my warnings he didn't take key cover on his insurance) and cannot wait 14 days for a replacement he WILL loose his job (self employed contracting) if we can't get this sorted in the next couple of days.

Anyone please have any ideas around this or any cheaper suggestions of how to get a key?

Many thanks

Hi,
do you have Homestart breakdown?,
Breakdown on your bank account / home insurance etc,
a lot of these will now cover this,

In the vehicles paperwork you SHOULD have a credit-card thing with the FIAT CODE on = 4 digit number.. DO you recall seeing this??,
if it's in the van it's well worth breaking in to retrieve it- as you can get a key re-coded to the vehicle with this code,

maybe do a search for KEY info,

Mk2 punto is the busiest section on here - lots of helpful suggestions too!!,

No they won't as Fiat UK do not supply this with vehicles at the request of the insurance industry, because people seem to have a habit of stupidly leaving it in their cars  (n)

OK = so you order the number from FIAT UK.. How much££ , AND how long..??,

I seem to recall it's just an "admin fee", but does it take weeks..??

Recently enquired to Fiat main dealer regarding supplying code and new spare key for my Doblo.
Code = £15 but you need proof of indenty and vehicle document form.
Did you say to do have AA/RAC etc., thinking they might be able to do the door latch lift.

Spare single key = £240.

I'm sure I read on here somewhere about a company that can bypass the chipped key ring thingy. Downer is you had to send off the ignition barrel for them to neutralise. Sure it said something that they advertise on ebay.

Can't see sending off the ignition barrel doing anything as it only houses an antenna, which cannot be programmed as far as I'm aware.

Many thanks for all your help guys, I got into the van, without smashing windows as he was going to thankfully! and got the logbook and code. Have now mananged to claim against my house insurance for lost key to be replaced and the whole process became alot simpler and cheaper with the code from the logbook.

Many thanks for all your help and suggestions! xxx

Interesting, what insurance company was this out of interest? Yet to find a home policy to cover anything motor related. Might cost longer in the long run mind, but at least its sorted for now. :)
