Hi fellow Fiat 500 drivers...hopefully I am not the first one with this kind of problem....as I tried to open the hood for the battery to be charged and the cable just snapped inside the trunk from the opening mechanism...so now I can get the hood open and I am wondering if there is some way to open the hood without damaging the hood plate or the mechanism itself....thanks for the tips...

The only way I know of opening it, is to slide something really thin but strong enough to push the latch to one side. You may have to see if you can get a second pair of hands to pull the bonnet up a few mm’s whilst you try to get to the latch.

Do you have the little rubber in front of the latch as in the picture below? If so it will aid in not damaging the paintwork.

You could use the special tool for the job! It will lessen the damage to the paintwork.

You may also need to push down a little bit on the bonnet to relieve the pressure on the latch and make it easier to move across

A thin wide piece of plastic might do the job.

^^ x2

I've used a decorator's paint scraper in the past, thin but strong blade.
'Her indoors' might not be happy if you use a wooden spatula......

Tip from a long married guy---wait until she has gone out shopping, but DO remember to clean the spatula after you have used it and DO remember to put it back in the correct place---I have earned myself more bollockings than I care to think about by forgetting rule 3!

Hi,
I'm having ongoing problems with my bonnet release, it has never been right, so intend to put it right once and for all. Can someone post some photographs of the correct installation, i.e. the correct mounting from the cabin and correct set up on the catch end.

Also, is it easy to swap over the original bonnet catch, I can't see how this would come apart to replace for new.

Thanks,
Stuart.
