Technical help regarding steering plz

Hi the tipo is finally running, however i'm having problems with its steering which is very heavy and noisy when turning the steering wheel (makes a grinding noise). I've checked and its had a new power steering pump belt fitted, are there any known faults on the MK2 16v steering, and if its a fault with my rack, how easy is it to repair or replace (Got a spare rack with the car).
Any advice or suggestions what to check would be very welcome. I'd really like to get the car road worthy asap.

have u checked the oil level?
ppl often forget silly things like that lol

Change / bleed the PAS fluid. That's very often the problem.

thanks, i'll check in the morning, i did notice that the PAS resevoir pressure release was popping up when the car was running, i'll guess thats cause its empty!!
