My heater control valve is bad. Pretty obvious when you look at it. I bought the parts from IAP and the repair manual. Unfortunately the manual doesn't say how to replace the valve. I've looked under the dash for the last 30 minutes. The only way I can see to get at the thing is to remove the heater and hence a large portion of the interior. Correct assumption? Thanks.

totally erroneous assumption. What year is your car? Sounds like it is a '77 or newer because if you could see the heater valve, you would see that there are only two small bolts holding it onto the heater core.

my assumption is that the relay tray is in the way preventing you from seeing the valve.

open the passenger door, get on your knees and remove the relay tray from under the glove box. you should now see the valve.

Remove the hose clamp from the heater hose on the engine side of the firewall.

I believe you will need a 8 or 10mm socket to remove the two nuts from the studs. once those two nuts are removed....viola

be prepared for a small amount of antifreeze getting spilled.
