Help!!! New 2 Forum! New 2 Fiat!

Hiya, I'v just joined the forum becuase i need help with my car! Its a 1997 Fiat Punto 55 S 1.1, my first car in case you were guessing.
The thing is its speedometer is broken and I just got it home only to find out that apparently the speedo cable is connected to the hearbox which in turn is gonna cost me a ton in labour!

- IS THAT CORRECT OR SHALL I JUST BUY A NEW SPEEDO CABLE?

*Minimum expense answers please!!!

just buy a speedo cable,simple fit really.screws into the gearbox and back of the speedo.
buy a haynes manual.
where did you think it would be connected?

I was only worried because I was told that it could cost alot in labour? will i be able to do it myself?

. . . how much am i looking to buy a cable???

its electric, so who ever told you its cable should not be trusted to do the work
