yup... if your gonna do the swap, go for the mk1 engine, but in all honesty, your better off selling and buying a sporting... the insurance companies hate engine transplants and you'll pay for it. a 55 or 60 with a 75 engine will cost more in insurance than a punto that was a 75 from the factory.
The reason you can't go for the MK2 engine is that the mounting points are different for a start... would require a fair bit of fabrication to get it installed. Then the ECU works differently... it communicates with the body computer and the steering computer, so its likely to throw a hissy fit when it can't find these other devices on the network. Then theres the immobiliser... the punto mk2 uses a rolling code immobiliser, so your MK1 key wont support that and so you'll need a lockset from the MK2 aswell, which won't fit the MK1. The MK2 engine may be able to be run off the MK1 75 ECU with a lot of wiring work, but you still have the problem of fabricating new mounts to support the engine.
