General Help need to find vin number/code on my punto

Hi im a fiat newbie. Am about to buy a 1994 punto but i want need to check the VIN number with the reg doc. Where do you find the VIN number/code???? please help if you know cos i dont have a clue.

When lifting the bonnet, there should be a metal plate riveted to the slam panel . ( black circle in pic, hope vern doesn't mind )

Is there anything else on the car you can check it against im in a dilemma. The owner of the car has only bought it two weeks ago and sent off log book so its not come bak yet ive been told they can take upto 6 weeks!!!. So i dont know whether to still buy it ?!! iv heard of a v5 form or something but am a bit scared as never bought a car before!

Any help on this situation also greatly appreciated

on the drivers side footwell, near the door, there is a plastic "cover" in the carpet, this lifts up revealing the VIN number (i think its the VIN, never paid much notice)

The owner has sent off for a logbook-
was this car an insurance write off? if so, it needs to go through a VIC check to check that it is the right car and not a stolen car trying to take on the identity of a written-off car

If the owner did not recieve one and it hasnt been involved in an accident, it should be fine, when i got my car, i had to send off for a new log book as mine was a cat C write-off. It took about 2 and a half weeks from sending off the VIC details to getting my log book
