help my car is reving on its own

my bravo keeps reving to 3000 revs on its own and cutting out, the garage says its the map sensor has anyone got any ideas this car is driving me mad ive only had it 5 months.

that sounds reasonable to me not sure what it will cost you to fix though but possibly a job you could do yourself if you are a little bit mechanicly minded

Air pressure sensor, Throttle Body - it could be any one of a number of things, all of which are expensive.

A friends 1.2 bravo was doing the same and it was the throttle body.

Bit more info - is it revving to 3000 rpm when idling then dropping back? If so, it's the idle control valve - you can clean this with some carburettor cleaner, it is only held on with 2 screws. Failing that, it's 150 quid to replace
