I have a punto van mk1, R reg and i need to know how to tighten the handbrake because i can pull it right to the top

any advice would be great

Please move to technical section. IS there any sort of tensions when you pull it up ?

thanks for the replies, the handbrake holds the car right at the top on the last click

ok, cables stretched then, too much adjustment could well snap it.

to adjust the handbrake on a mk1 punto, take the trim off around the handbrake lever, pull the handbrake up about 4 notches and hold the locknut under the lever with a spanner.turn the adjustment screw one full rotaion anticlockwise and release the handbrake lever then reapply to check tension.

keep doing that process until you get the handbrake to the required tension and the lever stops where you want it to.

remember to make sure the locknut is tight after your finished
