Hi All,

'98R Fiat Bravo HGT ( Water Leaker ! )

I need help - last night my dipped and main beam lights packed up. Attempting to turn them on subsequently stopps the following from working :

Washer Jets
Wiper Blades ( front and back )
Heated Rear Window
Fan Heater

All other systems are okay - windows, sunroof, heated seats, fog lights, side lights etc

After the attempt to turn the lights on, the bits mentioned above don't work for quite a while even after the lights are turned back off.

This appears to be triggered if either the main beam or dipped beam are activated. I've switched in and out fuses to see if it was dipped and not main or visa versa.

Can anyone help with any suggestions - I've not got access to the wiring diagrams etc so can see what relays are in place and what shares what circuits.

I'm off work tomorrow as I can't get there so have plenty of time to investigate.

Relay

Simon, as per the email, I think its the relay sticking. If the other circuits come back to life a while after its probably taking time to click off. I cant remember the colour of the relays and unfortunately I have to give a presentation to the sales team tomorrow morning (its a Friday thing!) but I should be finished after lunch. Leave a post here or email if you are still having problems after say 13:00 and I will give you my mobile number.

First thing though, phone Fiat for a headlamp relay - that way you will get one and know what you are looking for! They should be fairly cheap, less than £20 anyway.

Lastly, you havent done any work on the car have you, like ICE or fog/driving lamps?

Cheers

Not Relay - Steering Stalk Connector ?

Nigel,

The problem does not appear to be the relay. It looks more like the indicator stalk connector.

I've whipped off the shell around the steering wheel and got my hands on the connector. A very very little pressure to the right renders all components listed before non-functional. If I hold the connector so it always makes contact, I can use the dipped beam and lights at the same time as everything else.

If you move the connector, you hear the relay clicking in and out ( its Yellow by the way and second from the right behind the fuse box if your looking from the drivers seat ).

So, looks like a new indicator stalk or some bodging. Unfortunately, to get in there to sort it properly, its steering wheel off time - and I don't like that idea with the airbag!
