Hi guys and girls, :cry::cry:

It looks like i murdered tango good and proper!

Went to take to get a handbrake adjustment ready for wednesday!(her MOT) But it just doesn't seem to be good enough! She's not happy with just £75 work, oh no! now she broke somethin' else. Gets half way to the garage and all of a sudden there's a big clunck and the clutch pedal dissapeared! After waiting for an hour for an arogent tow truck driver who said "you should just scrap it and get a deisent car!" i nearly floored him there and then! Anyway got to the garage finally. He put the car straight on the ramp, and he said it don't look good! they can't tell if it's the clutch it's self, the clutch cable or the gear box remote. But am i right in thinking it's going to be expensive? I was told 6 months ago that the remote was on its way out but said if i had it done it wouldn't make any difference to the stiff gear change, so i booked it in with paul at motomech for next tuesday but it looks like it won't be going after all! My mechanic said if it has to be opened up he'll do it while it's there!
Gotta phone him tomorrow to see if he know's what it is but as i said earlier it's not looking good.:cry:

My best guess is that the clutch cable has snapped because the clutch release bearing is cream crackered (hence the stiff clutch).

The cable is cheap, clutch fitting at a garage is expensive.

Round here the backstreet, cash in hand, clutch specialists charge about £100 plus parts (say £50). Their overheads are much lower and they do nothing but change clutches (and Alfa 155 gearboxes for my mate Milan) all day.

At a garage you're looking at £250 plus.

Whichever way, fit the whole clutch kit (pressure plate, clutch plate, release bearing).

i snapped my clutch cable, think it was less than 20 quid for a replacement
i fitted it myself, was my first attempt at it, and got it done in a few hours. theres a really good guide on the forum. tells you all you need to know. a garage would rip you off to change it, and its pretty straightforward really

up date HELP!!! I killed my sei

Hi guys and girls.

Just rang the garage and they say there's a part somewhere that's linked to the clutch in some way and this part has broke off and come adrift he said it between the clutch pedal and where it meets the engine. They say they've ruled out the clutch its self. Which is not helpful because the clutch is still under waruntee so it wouldn't cost anything but no! it's something else and they can't find out how to get this part back in to the right place so the both front wheels have got to come off the new bit bought as it has actually broke off and moved! Oh and it's not the cable! So i'm guessing its the remote in someway? I was going to do the remote next week.

NOT FAIR!!!!!

I have spent so much on her i'm thinking of cutting my loses and selling her!
:tempt:
Oh well fingers crossed i'll get her back tonight! Otherwise she can stay there for her MOT.

Hi guys and girls,
I got tango back and it turned out to be a pin had snapped and came away and shot up the cable?
The garage ended up taking the wheels off, drive shaft off and some other bits off to get to the cable were the pin got lodged because it was holding the cable so that it couldn't be free'd to be fixed. Then they had the fun of putting the new pin into the clutch remote where the old one had come from, he said it's not a 'hard' job to do just awkward!
The guy said in his opinion the pin couldn't have been put in properly when i had the new cable fitted about 12 month and over time it's weakend the bit of pin that was in place then after the time it's just snapped and shot forward.
Oh and he confirmed the gear remote is on it's way out so she will be going to paul (motormech) after all. i never even mentioned it to my usual garage just in case he just said 'oh yeah it needs doing. i'll do it for ??? and i'll do it while i have the rest of the car!' But he never! he asked if i knew it was on it's way out?

So she has her MOT today fingers crossed she passes then paul can have her tuesday next week so i get her working properly. As for selling her i can't afford to i've spent too much on her £3200 in 2 and half years.
So she lives to fight another day!:woot:
