Hi Guys,

I need your help!!

Had my Fiat 500 for two & a half years and for the past few days there has been a high pitched squeal coming from the front of the car when i'm driving along. It only happens between about 40-60 mph and it is intermittent however lasts for about 5-10 seconds when it starts. Any ideas what it could be and how i get it fixed? Its really bothering me as i do quite a lot of miles and worried something might go pop or bang on the way to work.

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks Jen x

Is it happening in every gear? At certain revs or just that speed no matter what the engine is doing? Definitely get it booked in at a garage if you're worried though!

Nothing affects the noise. It happens whether i'm braking, accelerating, changing gear, turning a corner. It just does it between those two speeds

Thanks for those links Zanes, it doesn't sound like what i have as mine is happening whethers the engine is cold, hot or in the middle lol!

I've booked it in to have a quick inspection just worries me thats all. One of my work colleagues seems to think it is a wheel bearing that has just worn but thats its nothing to worry about.

Just want to put my mind at rest :)

I'm curious to know just how many miles this car has done? First thing I'd check (or get checked) is the drive belt and its tensioner - I'm guessing this won't be covered by the 3rd year warranty but others may know better...

My car has done 43000 miles in two and a half years. I know its a lot!!!!

I live in Derby but work in Birmingham so i'm doing 250+ miles a week

To put your mind at rest, you need to find out what's causing the noise, then you'll know if it can be safely ignored for awhile, or needs to be fixed asap.

Bearing in mind the mileage (subtle pun here) there are several possible causes & without actually seeing the car, we are all just speculating. If you're DIY inclined, try to isolate the problem to either engine or chassis by coasting the car when the problem occurs. Otherwise, post the results of your quick inspection, & I'm sure lots of us will happily tell you if we think you're being properly advised.

But yes, without being alarmist, I'd advise getting it looked at as soon as you can.
