I'm in the middle of the FIAT BRAVO 20V turbo conversion and came across a problem which not noted earlier :( i noticed that my 1.6 16v engine external gearbox controls are made out of rods.... now the 20v turbo engine needs cable type external gearbox controls..

Will the fiat coupe gearbox controls fits my car? or i have to get controls from a Bravo HGT version?

Any kind of help/info ASAP especially from those who already converted there 1.6 16v SX model to 20Valve / 16 Valve turbo conversions is much appreciated.

Thanks and regards

Noel.

You need the gear selector and cables from the 20vt.

Matt

but do you think that the main the fiat coupe's complete 'tunnel' (where the gear selecter and handbrake lever are located) will fit directly to my bravo or i have to get the HGT 'tunnel'?

Thanks and regards,

Noel.

the whole gearlever assembly should be a straight swap from underneath (including handbrake part)

you will notice that the gearbox connecting rods are bracketed to the steering rack also, if you can removed this bracket you should be ok, otherwise you may need the coupe steering rack too.

Hi Rich,

Thanks for your comment,

So the Fiat 20V turbo cables/gearlever/handbrake assembly is a straight swap to my Fiat bravo SX? so this means that the Fiat Bravo HGT and Coupes has the same linkages etc..as im afraid that the position of the Stick and handbrake are different from each other..am i right?

Thanks for your great help.

Noel.

AFAIK as long as youve got the whole assembly like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330367626781 (not mine BTW)

then yes its a stright swap.

the mounting bracket should be the same across the range (spacing shouldnt be an issue), its the linkage between this the gearbox that differs. swapping the whole assembly will easier, and will mean you have the lift up safety feature from the coupe, that the bravo might not have (on earlier model), in conjunction with the coupe gearbox your about to fit.

If i'm wrong someone will correct me :)
