thanks in advance for any help

i drove my 1.6 stilo to work this morning no problem when i left i put the key in and the turned ignition on no problem when i went to start the car my led display cut out and flashing faults like ebd, esr failure and all i can hear is click, click, click i think this is my starter motor but not sure, the car just wouldnt start.

has anyone had anything similar i just want some advice an what to do now do i need a new starter motor or could it simply be a loose plug?

also i did try a jump stary from other car but sil no luck

thoughts?

thanks

Hmm metalic click like gratey clink clink click is sign of a flat battery, but it could be other things.

Give your battery a charge but if it happens again then you could be looking at an alternator fault or perhaps a slack pulley, the dashboard haywireness is common for a battery with low charge/current but the fault could suggest lack of chargine related to the alternator! also give connections a quick check over unless somethings gotten damp your aware of?

ok so i towed the car home today then tried to bump start it and also jump start it still no luck battery voltage was 6.9 V very low so i have removed the battery and its now charging over nite will see tomorrow if this helps.

just dont understand why it wouldnt jump start makes me think its not the battery?

Well its very low that for sure! try a different battery to rule it out? personally if your just trying a jump then maybe something can't sustain it, check alternator flow?

So I charged it overnight and it's back up to 12.8v just put it in the car and it started first time no probs. Now to find out why it got to 6v in the first place.

I will leave it all day and try it wen I get in from work if it starts this should tell me there is nothing in the circuit draining the battery and that the battery can hold it's charge

If not I could b bad earth or alternator I'm thinkin?
Any suggestions?

Ps how would u check the alternator?
Thanks

Yeah definately don't rule out a bad earth, i thought this was the case with the battery though :p, another thing is maybe perhaps a door wasn't shut properly or something using power slowly drained it over night?

Test alternator with a multimeter on dc volts on your battery terminals while connected to car, it should read 12.5-12.8, now turn your engine on and it should rase to 13.8 to 14.8 v from the alternator with the normal idle, now try all your lights, heaters etc and see the voltage drop, if it drops too low you could have an issue but the voltage should remain pretty steady!
