Been thinking about replacing me cam belt for a few weeks, then today...SNAP!

Local garage reckon £800 > £900 all in! (inc gasket, oil/filter change etc...)

Does this sound like a fair price? (its a 1.9 diesel JTD)

Anyone know any garages in the Derby area they would recommend?

Any help would be very much appreciated!:worship:

Cheers

Ben

With belt gone – 95% of the time (with a petrol) you would need new pistons, valves and followers – complete head rebuild – 800 sounds fare (if you have a non-interference engine though 800 is too expensive as you just need to fit new belt & tensioners: personally i’ve never seen one of those legendary engines (too young?) and they don’t exist with dual over head cams. Sorry if i’m off (don’t know anything about diesels – but it shouldn’t be too different apart for the spark and comp ratio)

You will never find a non interference diesel.
You really have to take it apart and see what is bent/ broken before anyone can quote a price.
It may well be cheaper to put a replacement engine in.

Errm...140,000...i dont think its ever had a new one so i wasnt too shocked. Should have replaced it as soon as i bought the car but i thought id wait till a had more cash. :bang:

Going to look after this car once its been fixed, no matter how much of a pig it is to work on!

With that mileage, definitely find a low mileage replacement engine instead of trying to fix it.
