I've recently just purchased a 2002 MK2 Fiat Punto, it had no stereo installed but I happened to find the original Blaupunkt tape player underneath the passengers seat. I have now fitted this stereo but I have no idea whether it was the original. It has clipped into my dash board & whenever I switch the radio on it says "Check" and won't change or do anything. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

'CHECK' normally means the radio has come from a different car.

Fiat radios are designed to be fit into one car only for security reasons.

There may be other reasons why it comes up such missing or loose wires

I gathered that it may be from another Punto. Any idea how I can disable the "cancheck" ??

Hi, radio is coded to the car, and checks with the body computer over 'CANBUS' network that it is installed in the correct car. Its an anti theft system.

But if for some reason it cannot communicate with the body computer either through a body computer fault, or wiring problem it cant verify its in the correct car.

The easiest solution would be to buy a brand new radio from somewhere (may not be easy to find) or install an aftermarket HU.

Someone else might have a solution that won't involve buying a new radio so don't go out and do exactly what i say

Hope i've shed a bit of light on the cause of the problem, sorry i cannot be anymore help (n)

Thanks for the reply. I am having a CD player given to me tomorrow, do you think that would work in the car or do I need to have it professionally fitted?

If its an aftermarket HU not a Fiat radio i don't see why not.

You may need to enter the code for it to work though, which whoever is giving you the HU should have

HU's aren't especially difficult to fit but all wires need to be put into the correct terminations, the theory is, if you think you can screw it up, get it done professionally but it seems a waste to spend £30+. You will also need key tools to remove the current radio if you have pushed it in fully which (if you don't have them) can be bought off eBay for a couple of £'s

I don't think said person would have the code. It will be on the side of the actually fittings wouldn't it?

Hm.. Hopefully it will! If not I'll just be driving around without one haha!
