Help!! 1.6 coil pack needed

car broke down on me yesterday.... not from getting to hot the temp gauge was on normal i'd just come off on a slip road and as soon as the revs dropped it went completely tried turning it back on but it just "whired" at me as if it had no battery so had to get it towed and put it on charge all last night thinking that could be whats wrong with it and this morning still no luck i really have no idea what could be wrong with it??

it could well be your fuel cut off switch has been tripped.

if you have a mk1 (pre 99) then its under the passenger seat, if you have a mk2 then its behind the passenger side kick plate under the glove box, where you have the little rounded cut out bit. push the button down and see if it fires up.

if not, what engine is it, any noises when it cut out? when it whirs, does it try to fire or just whirs and whirs?

it's a 1.6 p reg so mk1 and no noises when it went it just went completely dead and then tried to turn it back on whilst still rolling and it just whired at me it seems like there isn't a spark and it's just turning... it's also dosn't sound like the cambelt has gone otherwise it'd turn over dead quicklly it just seems like the batterys flat but it obviously isn't what dos the switch look like because i didn't see ought wen i had the seats out recently??

just tried the switch as still nothing.. you can hear something ticking in the engine but only really silently

just tried it again and after alot of pursuasion it started... didn't sound healthy at all though and it kept popping- quite hard to listen for and other sounds as all i can hear is exhaust when running.... i had to hold the throtle down whilst turning it over and it kept getting quicker and quicker untill it actually started thing is you have to keep the revs up or else it just judders and then cuts out.... anyone got any ideas?

My guess would be a duff coil pack but my knowledge is limited

I'm sure one of the other guys wil put me right or wrong.

if it is that how easy? and how much would it be to get it back to normal? if it's possible to do it myself then i'd do that cos cant really afford a garage at the moment....

also dont know whether this is related or not but i've just chucked water in the radiator and turned it on and within about 5 seconds it was all over the floor...

i'm in same place as wimmy on this 1, i have limited knowledge of cars, but could it be you answered your own question and that there is possibly a hole in your radiator? fill it up and see where water is coming out from.

i'll be getting a new radiator i think soon as it's fixed cos it's had it i reckon but it wasn't anything to do with that why it cut out i dont think

hi if the radiator has had no water in it and then it cut out then would have done the head gasket in thats why it cut out and also the reason it pops and runs like crap is because the compression is been pushed into the other cylinder where it shouldnt be where abouts are u where u live

no it had water after when cut out but really not sure on why it chucked it out again when it was on my drive... the temp wasn't on hot it was just above half when it went

thing its it's not done hardly any miles since the head gasket was done so hopefully it aint that agaain cos that was a right pain of a job.... one o my mates come round who's a mechanice the other day and he seems to think it's my coil pack... i've checked the spark in all the plugs and they're all sparkein but really really weakly on all apart from one which is sparking fine..... tried doing it on the battery aswell and it's exactly the same so it's not my engine earth and live near derby mate post code de65

really dont know what to do with it... part of me wants to get another bravo chuck all the parts over and then get it sprayed but can't really afford it so i'll probably have to fix it

i have got a spare coil pack if you need one.

to me it sounds like a sensor is gone if it wont idle.

check the vaccume pipe from the inlet manifold to the map sensor as that being disconnected or cracked causes the symptoms you are describing.

yea mate wher you based? was thinkin o goin scrappers tomorow and gettin a rad and a coil pack but will check that pipe in a min probably

how much for the coil pack then mate? went scrappers today and got a rad but the only 1.6 coil pack they had was cracked all the way along the plastic
