am new here and was wondering if a fiat coupe engine or a 1.6 sporting will fit in a mk1 punto 60s (y)

sorry, not possible to change engines. everything is possible, but in this case it will be extremely difficult.

so with a little funds it could be done then :bang:

Anything "can be done" but it would require more than a little funds. Its seriously not practical in terms of work involved, time and cost to do plus insurance would be prohibitive.

so in other words i would need a big bank loan

Yes, plus plenty patience and knowledge. Remember you should uprate brakes and suspension too. Insurance on a 1.6 standard mass produced motor would be less than for a modified version of a lower powered car.

I fully empathise with your thoughts on this, u want a wolf in sheeps clothing and thats fun, did it myself years ago with an Escort 1.1, I put in a Cortina 1500GT engine & box, GT struts with the brake assembly including the servo.

It was fun, but things were different then, no ECU and electronic gizmo's to get hassle from and all the swaps were pretty much a straight swop, bit of metal bashing I recall for the bell housing thats all.

Your bet is to buy a Punto GT and wind the boost up. You'll hand there arses over to them, at least until the engine goes pop after running 2 bar boost
