Alright Guys,

Just bought a new car for myself- a year old (let someone else lose a shed load of cash! ;) ) Fiat Bravo 1.6 Diesel 120 model in Silver.

Absolutely great car at the mo- haven't been out for a real drive in it on back roads- just many miles motorways and town work in Glasgow and Paisley which isn't brilliant. Sadly a new car in November means keeping it clean is a pain!

Car seems mint- although discovered a wee water leak which looks to be near the nearside rear wheelarch in the boot which is putting water into the spare tyre area and making the boot floor underside wet. Have to get that sorted ASAP, but mechanically excellent and the gadgets are good!

Welcome - intrigued by the diesel 1.6 Bravo, planning on trying one next week (time allowing) (y)

Cheers, quite like the 1.6. Used to drive a 1.9 TDi- a PD VW group unit, one of the best at the time as it drove more like a petrol engine at that time, but now the progress means the 1.6 units and common rail drive well, good pull and acceleration.

I've certainly enjoyed it- lacks the all out torque surge the old car had in second gear- in that car you could floor it in second it was unbelievable at the time it seemed to take off, the Multijet doesn't have that but is nice and smooth. I find it less forgiving than the VW ones however- I've stalled it a few times when getting used to it- it seems to have a bit of a lull before power and torque get really going at 1300rpm-ish. It is a close call between the two engines. I really like the diesel combination of economy and 'warm' performance. Economy a bit less than I'm used to- only getting 45mpg at the mo.

I have been warned about the pitfalls of modern diesels are the DPF however. Been told it needs motorway driving (which is fine as I use the motorway on the way to work) and you should keep it in 5th occasionally to keep the revs up and exhaust gases hot to burn off the soot. Seems strange that town where economy of diesel works isn't great for diesels any more!

I'd definitely say it needs the 120 over the 105, I think the extra power is needed the Bravo is a bit on the beefy side.
