Hi Folks, I've just purchased a Fiat Ducato (2020 model, Euro 6) to convert into a camper.

I'm having some trouble with a yellow 'Check Engine' light which came on (on my first drive with the vehicle, can you imagine!).

I'm joining the forum to hopefully gain some wisdom from you all around how to fix it. I'm based around Edenbridge if any of you are local!

Cheers,
Oli

If you have just bought it , any chance you can take it back to vendor to fix as they may have known about it already, so could save your self a lot of money!
If you start to try and fix it the will say you made it worse:(

Unfortunately not. The seller is being very supportive and is staying in contact with me as I slowly uncover more about it.

I know that the van went into the main dealer in February for an issue which I believe to be the same as this one. Particulate matter filter full or something similar.

They have provided me with the error codes it threw before and I need to validate whether or not they are the same now. I’m hoping someone from here might be able to help me read them otherwise I’ll have no choice but to pay the £80 to the local garage for the diagnostic.

My hope is that I can prove that the same issue is reoccurring and the dealer will fix it on warranty of their original work.

This is certainly not the start to my campervan conversion that I was hoping for!

It may be that the vendor was made aware of the the possible expense and then decided to sell the vehicle.
If that is the case, the sooner a satisfactory conclusion is reached, the cheaper it will be for you.:(

That’s certainly a possibility. I think there’s a chance the seller would reimburse a portion of the cost of the fix but I don’t want to wait too long.

I might have to buy a MultiECUScan licence and OBD reader in order to understand the codes.

I would get an OBDII reader and scan for codes with the free version of MES to start.

Take a screenshot for future reference, clear codes, see if that removes the Engine Management Light and see if any codes comes back.

Are all fluid levels and guages reading as they should be?

Yes all fluids are good.

I purchased multiecuscan and ran a diagnostic. I've got the P24D1-92 code which has been mentioned a number of times on this forum and is a known issue with the Euro6 engines. Sounds like I'll be paying for a new diesel particulate matter sensor and fitting it myself.

I've read that this is a superseded part. Might anyone out there know the updated part number so I don't accidentally buy the original faulty sensor again?

Fingers crossed it is the answer, I would still have been tempted to get vendor to fix it.:(

Thanks Mike, my fingers are definitely crossed..!

The seller was a private tradesperson and I don’t think they’d entertain the idea of fixing it themselves, especially at main dealer prices. I’ll change the sensor and contact him and see if he’ll go halves with me on the fix perhaps.

private tradesperson ? Never trust any seller has been my experience.
That goes from large main dealers forecourts, back street garages and the general public from over 55 years working in the trade as a motor mechanic, they can be friendly and good to talk to, but at the end of the day their job is to sell for maximum profit with minimal outlay. Any less and they would be out of a job!
There used to be a saying "A good mechanic makes a poor car salesman" The reason being they try to fix all the faults they find and then try and sell!:)
