Good evening
We are looking to save some money and looking at sorning our 4x4 and buying a run about car.
My wife has seen a 2005 8v 1.2 punto for £220
Looks quite tidy from pictures , 10 months mot. 80k on click, mot history looks OK, usual windscreen jet , suspension issues etc.

Owner has stated car will go into first and no other gear reckons linkage, and passenger door won't lock something fell behind panal.

Anyone know if this is a fix I could do, I like tinkering but I am useless , fat hands too.
Car is located not far from Skipton.
Any ideas.
Cheers

Me neither. If the fix was that easy the seller would have done them. Many times a seller points out issues they are leaving out the big one.
Plenty of fish in the sea.

Hi, and welcome,

could be ;

linkages - cheapish - (but fiddly work)

Clutch - gearbox off - 5hours+@£60

Gearbox itself - 5 hours + £100 used box)

only the linkages are really worth doing in the price range,

I'd spend a bit more for a better car..

floor / sill corrosion , and over heating / head gasket are the only thing that finishes off the 8V motors generally.

should do 35 to 45 mpg, and tyres etc are CHEAP..;)

Thanks for the warm welcome ,
That's my thinking, wife loves the photos and has her heart set,
Is there any quick checks I can do on the linkage, to rule out gear box etc

No it's stuck in first gear , gear stick is floppy

Can be the gear selector cables which are an easy fix. Plenty about though so i would leave alone.

If its stuck in first - then i would say its a snapped gearlinkage cable - its becoming a more and more of a common issue with age
A 2nd set of a scrappy should cure this no issue

As for door problems - without diagnosis - only main moving parts are the actuator itself or the door flexi's broken
