No, not retired, just moved on to a new chapter in my life and became a qualified electrician, plumber, heat pump engineer, etc.
I have many fond memories of my exiting car days, the days when there was always a project that I would be working on in the evenings and other like-minded people would pop along to chat and exchange tips and ideas. The days when you could buy a MK1 1100 Escort for £50 and stick a 2000 Pinto engine straight onto the 1000 gearbox, the days when you would stick a Rover (Buick) V8 engine into a Bedford CF just for fun.
So many fond memories.

Welcome to the forum. Have you been "lurking around" reading posts for a while or just jumped in willy nilly? Great depth of knowledge on here with some people knowing a great deal about particular models.
That Rover (Buick derived) engine was legendary but I always admired the little 2.5 Daimler which looked so lovely when all the alloy casings were polished up.
Your mention of the Pinto engine in the Escort makes me think of my youngest boy who, having started as a painter decorator but quickly found it "boring", then progressed into doing signs - mainly shops and vehicles - now owns his own sign business and specialises in bespoke vehicle livery. One of his customers is a restorer of classic cars and he (my boy) recently sent me pictures of an RS 2000 which had been completely resprayed to a very high standard onto which he had applied all the fancy pinstriping etc. It's a white one with the blue "U" shaped decal on the bonnet. Although not a mechanic, as I was, I'm ever so pleased he's inherited my love of interesting cars and vehicles. Another of his recent jobs which turned out exceptionally well was when the customer asked him to cover all the piano black finish inside his top end BMW with carbon fibre finish trim. Have to say, it looked a great improvement over the slightly "cheap looking" piano black which was becoming scratched and was difficult to keep clean.
