Hi, Im a long term 'member' on the Grand Punto forum and have just been working on a friends 2007 Ducato diesel.
Basically the rear pads got that low the pads fell out and the piston itself was forced out acting as a breaking pad!..Needless to say but I replaced both calipers/discs and pads .

So here's the question.. the sliders...removed them and cleaned the holes out ..cleaned and re-greased everything with red rubber grease but I could not get the slider to go in. The slider without the boot went in as expected.
I though the boot had expanded over the years and bought a replacement set ,£45...
BUT same issue.
Its all back together now, using the new and old sliders without the boots..

Anyone got any idea's as to whats going on?..

This was completed New years eve and getting hold of parts was a tad difficult..

Hi, by "the boot on the slide pin" were two of the slide pins the type that have a rubber sleeve near the end?
Or the rubber boot that stops water in with the slide pin?
Good job helping your friend out in this weather.

Thanks for the reply...Its the sleeve on the sliders...The original was stuck fast and after a good clean(involving brake cleaner, hot water and cotton buds) of the 'holes' on the hangers I tried to put the new sliders in and I couldnt get the pin/sleeve in at all.

Im heading to the breakers in the morning as they have a ducato in to see whats available for comparison..

I believe the rubber sleeve on one pin of each pair of slide pins is just to stop the caliper rattling when brakes not applied.
It should not affect brake performance.

Is it possible you couldn't fit the pin with the sleeve because it was so well greased it was compressing the air in the hole ?

If the hole has corroded it may now be smaller than designed.

There was no evidence of any corrosion, just dried/hard grease on both the sliders and inside the holes. All cleaned up.
The original sleeve would not enter the holes either..my assumption was that it had expanded /degraded over the potential last 13 year's... strange that a new set did the same.
I dont put a lot of lube on the shaft tbh just in case it 'locks' up as you stated.
